Dr. Stephan Thieringer is a co-founder of AcrossWorld Education, an international technology platform and infrastructure company empowering institutions to harness the value of Open Content and Open Educational Resources.
Stephan was an early visionary of SaaS in the online compliance learning space and has impacted various learning standards in workgroups under IEEE SC36, with the emphasis on interoperability between content and learning platforms.
A leader and visionary in the movement for ubiquitous information access, Stephan is a Global Strategy Advisor of The Open Knowledge Initiative™ (O.K.I.) at MIT, an Executive Committee Member of the Open Educational Resources in Cancer consortium (OERC), an ELES Ambassador, an Advisor to the OEN Africa Network, and a member of the U.S. - India Business Council’s Education Committee, and serves on the Academic Advisory Board for Notehall India.
A frequent and popular speaker on topics related to knowledge and information access, digital asset management, and mobile learning, Stephan is featured in several business and education publications such as, EduTech, Financial Express, Hindu Times, and the Boston Business Journal.
Stephan is an active participant and a frequent invited guest to an array of global education conferences and summits including, INFO-COM, ISKME, Learning Without Frontiers, and TEDx.
Stephan’s previous engagements include, Keynote Speaker at INFO-COM, the U.S. India Business Council’s Higher Education mission on occasion of President Obama’s State Visit to India, Open CourseWare Consortium in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the American Chamber of Commerce India National Conference on Higher Education, Kolkata, India. Stephan was a finalist of the prestigious Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council’s “CXO of The Year” Award, 2008 , and has presented at various Symposia of CII in Kolkata, and Delhi.
Stephan is a German citizen residing in Boston, Massachusetts, and holds an MBA from the University of Lucerne Switzerland, and an Honoris Causa Doctorate in Education.
