Anil Srivastava’s work with Dr. James Spohrer on Educational Object Economy (EOE) with Apple’s Advanced Technology Group was the forerunner of open education resources movement. Also at Apple, Mr. Srivastava was the coordinator of the India Task Force responsible for setting up Apple’s business operations in India. Mr. Srivastava moved to the United States after serving as the first chief executive of India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) from 1989-91 and then as senior professional advisor with Booz-Allen & Hamilton in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Mr. Srivastava co-founded the Centre for Development of Instructional Technology (Cendit) and served as its director and Head of Knowledge Engineering. During that time he worked with the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) and had a pioneering role in the introduction of color broadcasting in India. A very important part of his work is devoted to open source software and standards based interoperable information systems. Open source software and standards based interoperable information systems have been a significant part of his work over the years including his current engagement with caBIG (Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid). Currently he serves as director of International Network for Cancer Research and Treatment (INCTR) and heads INCTR’s Open Health Systems Laboratory at Johns Hopkins Montgomery County Campus in Rockville, Maryland, in addition to being part of the leadership team for Open Education Resources for Cancer (OERC) and Indian Network for Cancer Education, Research and Treatment (INCRET). Mr. Srivastava continues his role as advisor to Sam Pitroda, Chairman of India’s National Knowledge Commission, both in India and Mexico, along with his work with the World Bank focused on the South Asia Region.
